USDA Provides Clarification of Monitoring Waivers

On Friday last week, Child Care Aware of America, hosted expert panelists about the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) as they discussed policy and practice during COVID-19. Geri Henchy from the Food Research and Action Center (FRAC), USDA/FNS and Reynaldo Green from Quality Care for Children and the National CACFP Forum provided great insight into CACFP at the present time.

It was the first time we have had the opportunity to hear directly from the USDA national office regarding the waivers that address monitoring since the publication of COVID-19 Child Nutrition Response #39 which allows for offsite monitoring during the pandemic. USDA provided some clarifications directly based on questions they have been receiving from the CACFP Community.

Since the publication of Response #39, there has been discussion around whether or not the monitoring items in Response #27 were extended past August 31, 2020. This webinar clarified that #27 has NOT been extended. CACFP Sponsors, for fiscal year 2021, must conduct three monitoring reviews (by phone or video), one meal must be observed and two of the three visits must be unannounced. The video below begins at the monitoring clarification section - however, the entire webinar is worth your while to watch. Entire webinar and slides can be found here.

USDA will be joining us at our conference in November for a live Town Hall! Join us to hear directly from USDA and ask your own questions!
