Supporting Breastfeeding in Child Care: upcoming virtual training and Team Nutrition Resources

Free Child Care Training

Curious about supporting breastfeeding moms and child care providers doing their best to do the same? On August 17th, beginning at 6:00 p.m. pacific, there will be a free virtual training designed for child care providers to assist them in supporting breastfeeding families. "Many new mothers return to work or school within the first three months of their child’s life. Supporting breastfeeding families is easy and cost-effective and it can help you stand out among other childcare providers. In this workshop, co-hosted by TrueCare WIC, at-home or center-based childcare providers will receive training from International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs). Learn about breastfeeding-friendly practices including the benefits of breastfeeding, proper handling and storing of breast milk, feeding the breastfed baby, creating a breastfeeding supportive environment, and supporting breastfeeding families with community resources." You can learn more and register here.

Free Resources from USDA

These resources include:

  • A Mother's Guide to help mom's understand different aspects of breastfeeding, especially when they return to work and place their children in child care,

  • A poster that child care providers can place in their environment, and;

  • A message graphic that providers can place on their website or even request printed copies of from USDA

All of these resources are free, in English and Spanish, and can be ordered in print - also for free.
