Several papers have come out this month about the state of child care, rebuilding it and the continued crisis the already fragile field is experiencing. Advocates have been calling, emailing and writing Congress for months now telling them the child care industry needs 50 billion dollars to survive. A last push for the funding in a pandemic relief bill has filled social media feeds and news outlets this week. Below are some of the insightful papers and reports that have been released.
Am I Next? Sacrificing to Stay Open, Child Care Providers Face a Bleak Future Without Relief. The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) published a two page analysis of their most recent survey of the early education field. “The situation is dire for child care providers—the ones that are still open. Add to that the thousands of providers that have already closed and the magnitude of this national crisis is much, much greater.” — Rhian Evans Allvin, CEO, NAEYC (link)
Transforming Child Care: Cross-Community Voices to Inform Change. Child Care Aware of America (CCAoA) provides new policy recommendations to Re-Envision Child Care post COVID-19 and America's racial reckoning in 2020. This paper is the result of Roundtables with stakeholders including parents, providers, employers and child care support systems. (link)
Essential and Open for Business. National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC) released a report based on a fourth survey of family child care providers about how they're being impacted by COVID-19. NAFCC compiled a report to emphasize the crucial role family child care plays in our society, particularly during this global pandemic.
2020 Presidential Transition. 187 organizations came together to make these recommendations for the Biden-Harris transition team for the child care field. (link)
