When we emailed the community yesterday, there was still a sense of panic and uncertainty around the Office of Management and Budget's memo stating that beginning Tuesday (at 5:00 p.m.) all funding for federal assistance was to be paused. We had just learned that the OMB released a short "clarifying" memo stating that not ALL of the federal assistance program funding would pause, for example, Medicaid, Head Start, SNAP, and others.
Later in the afternoon, we learned that a federal judge temporarily blocked the memo's orders to federal agencies following lawsuit by a handful of non-profits; 22 state attorneys general were planning on filing suit in a federal court as well.
There is still some confusion around what the Administration intends to implement and while they have rescinded the original memo. It does seem as though CACFP as a program is safe at the moment. We'll continue to track and keep this blog post updated as things shift and change and impact our community at large.
