The Pandemic Child Hunger Prevention Act was introduced today by House Committee on Education and Labor Chairman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott. All of the press and headlines are going to focus on free school meals. This is wonderful because of the pressing issues of food insecurity, child and adult hunger that existed even before the record numbers of unemployed parents.
Particularly wonderful for our Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) is:
"Anywhere in the country, schools and non-profit community partners will be able to serve afterschool meals and snacks, under the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) At-Risk Afterschool Program or the NSLP Afterschool Snack Program, without having to certify the eligibility of each individual child.
All Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) day care homes will be eligible for reimbursement at the Tier 1 level."
This is good news. CACFP is an important source for child and senior adult nutrition - this has been recognized and specifically addressed in three emergency funding bills. Pay attention to the next call to action to make sure our other members of Congress know this too.
