Food with Care (SB 1481) Passes Senate Ed Committee with Bipartisan Support!

Updated: Apr 1, 2022

Passed with Bipartisan Support!

Yesterday, Food with Care (SB 1481) was heard by the Senate Education Committee. Senator Becker explained what the bill was meant to accomplish and why it was needed.

Then I testified on behalf of the CACFP Roundtable as co-sponsor to explain a little more about what the bill is intended to do and how it is supposed to do it. Following was Laura Diaz, family child care provider from Whittier, who shared the on-the-ground provider experience and how SB 1481 would help her, providers and families throughout California. There were no questions, no objections and quite a few call-ins to support! There was then a vote in which the entire committee voted Aye. This means the bill has bipartisan support and is moving forward to the next step. You can watch the hearing here, if you'd like. It begins around minute 1:10.

What are the next steps?

The next hearing the bill will be heard is the Human Services Committee. This will be on April 19. We will be asking for the community to send in letters of support again. Stay tuned.

We are also looking for support for the separate budget campaign. To do this, you just have to fill out this simple form and add your logo.
