Food with Care (SB 1481) Jumps another Hurdle - More Success!

Last week, Food with Care (SB 1481) was heard by the Senate Human Services Committee. Senator Becker, Kameron Mims-Jones with Nourish CA, and family Tulare-based child care provider Celeste Galeno provided testimony to communicate the importance and impact of SB 1481.

There were no questions, no objections and quite a few call-ins to support! The bill passed out of this committee with a vote 3-0-2 (3 in support, 0 in opposition, 2 abstains/not present to vote) and will move on to the next step (Committee on Appropriations - learn more about the legislative process here). You can watch the hearing here, SB 1481 testimony begins at 4:01:36 (yes, that's 4 hours! It was a long hearing and we are so grateful for our witness and supporters who hung in all day long).

What are the next steps?

Next, the bill goes through the Appropriations (or Finance) Committee. The most important advocacy you can do for the bill now is call your local Senator and ask for their support - especially if you live in Chair Portantino's district (Pasadena) or Vice Chair Bate's district (Laguna Nigel).

We are also looking for support for the separate budget campaign. To do this, you just have to fill out this simple form and add your logo.
