CNR and an extra meal for CACFP - there's still a chance but we have to act now!

Last week the Council for Professional Recognition provided an excellent overview of the need for Congress to move the child nutrition reauthorization act before the end of the year. However, we need to act fast - before the Thanksgiving holiday - in order to get their attention. This Child Nutrition Advocacy webinar explains in greater detail why that is the case. Catroina Macdonald provides a fantastic overview of how all of this works, why now is the time to take action, and exactly what to expect when contacting your congressperson, this starts at minute 30.

As you might remember, the House Committee on Education and Labor passed the Healthy Meals, Healthy Kids Act. It is still waiting for a vote on the House floor.

The focus right now is talking our Senators and telling the about the importance of passing a strong Child Nutrition Reauthorization before the start of the new Congress so that the momentum that has been building isn't lost. CDA provided these materials that can help you get started in contacting your Senators to urge them to support the passage of the Child Nutrition Reauthorization Act.

In the first part of the webinar, Mary Beth Testa explains what CNR is, why it matters, and what Congress has already done for CACFP through the Keep Kids Fed Act. Also, if you're curious about why, when, and how tiering came to be at minute 11ish she provides a great historical overview.

If you haven't already, contact your Senators and if you have, share this your colleagues and networks!
