CDSS CACFP Branch is offering an in-person CACFP Meal Pattern Crediting Academy

The community has been asking for some in-person trainings and CDSS CACFP Branch is answering that request with six in-person trainings spanning the state of California. The training is focused on CACFP meal patterns and for CACFP Operators serving children and adults who are involved in planning, purchasing, and/or serving meals and are either new to the program or want to learn more about identifying creditable foods, using the FBG tools, and understanding meal pattern documentation requirements.

The workshop is one full day, free, and will include:

Guidance to assist CACFP Operators to comply with the meal pattern requirements.  Participants will learn how to use the electronic U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food Buying Guide (FBG) tools, USDA Crediting Handbook for the CACFP, and other resources to determine whether foods are creditable and how they credit to the meal patterns.  The workshop will include tutorials and engaging activities to learn how to:

  • Use the FBG tools (e.g., FBG Calculator, Exhibit A Grains tool, Recipe Analysis Workbook, Food Items Search tool)

  • Identify creditable standardized recipes

  • Incorporate cultural foods and recipes into menus

  • Understand how to accommodate requests for meal modifications

  • Credit grains using ounce equivalents

  • Understand required documentation to demonstrate meal pattern compliance
